VSF Europa Meeting in Teramo

Symposium on Food Sovereignty

On 08th October 2009, VSF Europa held a symposium on food sovereignty in cooperation with SIVtro (VSF Italy), Istituto Zooprofillatico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e Molise (IZS) and Centro Internazionale per la Formazione e l’Informazione Veterinaria (CIFIV). Presentations featured the topic of food sovereignty in different parts of the world, like Mali and Uganda, but also in Italy, the topic of food security in natural disaster, and the importance of food safety for the development of small scale farmers. General Assembly

The annual General Assembly of VSF Europa took place on 09th October. Each VSF presented its internal structure and current projects, which was very useful in order to share ideas and understand the internal organisation of each member. Board Meeting The second VSF Europa Board Meeting of the year 2009 took place on 07th October in Teramo, Italy. It was attended by representatives of five member organisations.

Declaration of Commitment

To ensure the commitment of the single members of VSF Europa, the presidents of the member organisations should sign a declaration of commitment that VSF Europa developed during the last year. The declaration includes the minimum level of commitment expected from each member, for example active engagement in the board of VSF Europa.

Case Study Publication

VSF Europa has been working on a joint publication, presenting the work of VSF Europa and projects of the member organisations.

Position Papers

In the near future, VSF Europa wants to issue position papers on topics related to the organisation’s work. These will include e.g. food sovereignty, milk crisis, the role of livestock in climate change, the small scale farmers, the food safety importance in the south. The position papers will be used for lobbying activities within the EU.

New Development Education Project VSF Europa’s proposal for a new Development Education Project was not accepted by the EU. However, a new proposal will be submitted in 2010 and will hopefully be more successful.
